How did you get started?
When I was graduate school student, I usually used silicone for my work, as the tool. While using the silicone, I naturally got to know about the characteristics of matter. So I have interested in the flexible material to move freely.
I am expressing my feelings through my works, the material in my works should be descriptive. In addition, the significant of my works are free in movement, spontaneous shape and flexibility. In this way, I thought used the silicone is very simple and easy way of expressing my story.
Therefore, I have started to make this work with silicone.
What is your work about?
As root of subject matter of art, nature provided infinite possibility of creation and we created artworks based on continuous study and experience.
Unit cells itself shows various change in forms at each stage during the course of creation, grow, division, and extinction. The course of change gives fantasy about unpredictable ‘organism’ and organic form itself of cells which are basic unit of life formation contain element of infinite fantasy.
I actively expressed organic movement of cell with its mysterious color and its constant changing form by using silicone which is synthetic resins as its major component, and made spectator and wearer to feel interest by texture and materiality and transparency of silicone.
Is there a specific reason why you chose jewellerydesign?
I Usually made the objects when I was university student.
But They have limited to a particular place.
So, I was starting to interact with other though the works. the way of wearing the object. In this way, I chose jewellery design is very simple and easy way of share my story with other.
Is there anything specific that you feel makes you different from others in your work?
I always try to express the living in my works. So, most of my works has richer colors and unique shapes. Also, As a property of matter, silicone is the flexible material to move freely, and it has light. these are link with my story and prove the beauty as a jewellery.
I think these are a large part of what makes a big difference between others.
What do you consider the most innovative piece of your designs so far?
Sometimes our work is definitely affected by a change of mood, like all artist do.
My father had an unexpected relapse and died when I started making this piece. In the same way, the abrupt change in my life influenced me deeply, seems like the tree cast a long shadow over the lake.
This work's title is <Last winter, the sky torn apart poured down between dead twigs.> It's the one of my most treasured pieces.
Can you tell us something about the design process?
My work begins on imagination and inner visualization.
The imagination of the real object creates the inexistence things.
And I move the images on the paper. I have plenty of free-style drawing.
Usually I depict my object with exuberant drawings in primary colors.
The richer color brings to life the drawings. It's not an inanimate object any more.
then I make to duplicate the drawing as a three-dimensional structure.
Could you name people you admire and/or played a part in your development as an artist? Are there any movements that influenced you?
Dong Chun Lee, He is professor of Kookmin University in South Korea.
And he was my thesis director at graduate school.
I discovered we can tell the story through the work and feel the warmth of artist, from his works.
I have learned a lot under his tutelage. And I had become a artist who try listen to inner voice of the object.
